Minister States Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese vehicles, and personnel have been told to avoid talking about classified information in all cars.

Safety Advice for MoD Personnel

In a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to discuss secret information while riding in Chinese cars.

The minister stated that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but stressed that safety is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a fleet of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret level in any vehicle, due to the increasing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, the minister responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

This revelation comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese-made buses, which could enable China to disable public transport and cause disruption to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship has been shining laser beams at RAF aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

This wider security environment underscores the significance of strong protocols and caution in all areas of government activities, from transport use to discussions practices.
