Ten convicted of cyber-bullying directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced charges of circulating false claims regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to making malicious remarks about the husband and wife's significant age difference.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A circulating false narrative alleging that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the first lady's identity.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she taught at his lycée.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
